It makes me think of a people who are concerned only for themselves. Even their religion is only for the sake of feeling good about themselves. In direct contrast, James tells us that religion that is true and acceptable to God is a religion that regards the poor, the widow, the orphan, the foreigner, and the outcast (some of these I added in) and a religion that keeps one from being defiled by the world. (James 1:27)

It's been my recent thought that our gatherings and meetings out merely to be a springboard for what should be happening the other days of the week. So I imagine a place where people gather together once a week to not only hear a teaching from the Word but to discuss in that moment how they are going to carry out the Word, and then, as if there were no limit to the craziness, we actually go out and do the Word. All the while, we encourage one another, forgive one another, love one another, build one another up, and teach one another through our life and example what it means to be the people of God. Then we become a life-giving presence that co-creates rather than being a group of consumers, even consumers of religion.

Comment on Responding to Temptation

This is great! I use to think we had no choice but to keep on sinning and now I know, we DO have the ability to make the right choice every time! I think I usually do see it, but my stubbornness prevents me from always following it.

Comment on Do You Wear Glasses When You Read the Bible?

I love it! We do so often read what we want the Bible to say so it matches with what we already think is true! It is such a challenge to read something without that filter already in place. But if I want to really know God and his will, I must set aside what I think is already true to be open to what he wants me to learn. I think we often do this without even realizing we have these "glasses" on. This is a good reminder to take those glasses off thanks!

Comment on The Time-Space Continuum

I really like this simple explaination that time & space are on a continuum, and we agree that God created space therefore he must have created time as well. In order to create something, you have to exist outside of it. Which affirms what the Bible says, that he is eternal and has no begining and no end. I just never looked at it this way before.
